Nabarangpur,13th Oct 2025: : Among 112 districts, Nabarangpur district has achieved success in controlling malnutrition and has been awarded the third prize at the national level by the NITI Aayog. The award was presented to the District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain by NITI Aayog CEO V. B. R. Subramanyam at a program organized at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie.
Nabarangpur district, which was previously notorious for tribal malnutrition, has shown remarkable improvement. In 2014-15, among 100 children, 46 children were stunted according to their age. In 2019-20, this rate dropped to 44 percent. In 2024-25, this has further decreased to 10.76 percent.
Similarly, the percentage of children underweight by age was 51 percent in 2014-15, 47 percent in 2019-20, and dropped significantly to 3.54 percent in 2024-25.
There has also been progress in the number of severely malnourished children whose weight and height are low. The percentage reduced from 36 percent in 2014-15 to 25 percent in 2019-20, and further declined to 0.48 percent in 2024-25.
The district administration, social welfare department, and district health department have successfully coordinated to control malnutrition at the grassroots level. Receiving this award is a matter of pride for all employees working at the grassroots level across various departments.
District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain has called for efforts to achieve the first position in the future.
