Communities Observe Disability Day, Highlighting Inclusion and Accessibility

Daspalla, Dec, 08:  The local Disable Relief Organization observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday. In the forenoon, floral tributes were offered at the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das, and revolutionary Gobinda Mishra by a group of persons with disabilities along with students of Krishna Priya Devi Women’s College.

Later, a sensitization rally was organized from Gandhi Padia to the Teachers’ Building. A meeting was held there under the chairmanship of Dr. Prafulla Kumar Dash.

The event was attended by Abinash Mohanty, NAC Executive Officer; Bhakti Binod Sahu, Block Education Officer; Swarn Sarika Jena, Block Social Security Officer; senior citizen Pranakrishna Behera; journalists Prashant Kumar Sahu, Kishore Chandra Sahu, Saroj Panda, Aniruddha Muduli, and other dignitaries, who addressed the gathering.

In his speech, Editor Lakshmidhar Behera requested that the reservation quota for persons with disabilities in employment be increased to five percent, and similarly, the quota under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana be raised to five percent. He also appealed through the members of the assembly to allot land for constructing a permanent building for the organization.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sumanu Kumar Sathua.
