Nabarangpur:Jan, 21: Highly educated Amit Kumar Majumdar had worked in reputed companies in big cities. However, with the aim of doing something new for his own region, he decided to start his own enterprise.
While houses are being built, doors and windows are essential. Wooden products are expensive, whereas fiber-made doors and windows are not only attractive but also affordable. As a result, their demand has increased rapidly. Earlier, people had to bring these items from other cities, but now they are easily available locally in Umerkote.
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Make in India, this young entrepreneur has turned the vision into reality. At present, he is providing employment to ten local youths and is running a business with an annual turnover of ₹50 lakh to ₹80 lakh. He has become an inspiration for others. Amit Kumar Majumdar is a resident of Sirati village on the outskirts of Umerkote block in Nabarangpur district.
After completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Amit worked in several private companies in cities like Raipur, Visakhapatnam, and Hyderabad, earning a monthly income of more than one lakh rupees. However, he did not like doing a private job and was determined to start something on his own.
After returning to Umerkote, he observed that many houses were being constructed and people had to bring doors and windows from outside, which increased their expenses. Moreover, aluminum-made doors and windows were not very durable. Therefore, he decided to manufacture innovative fiber-made doors and windows and supply them locally.
While working as a mechanical engineer in Hyderabad, he had already gained experience in this industry. Using that experience, he started a small enterprise in Umerkote. Initially, he invested his own savings. Later, he also received financial support from his family, which helped him expand the business.
Within just three and a half years, the annual turnover of his enterprise has reached between ₹50 lakh and ₹80 lakh and is expected to grow further in the future. Through this enterprise, he has provided employment to local youths, helping them support their families.
Generally, after completing their education, people run after jobs. But youths should become entrepreneurs like Amit.
