Malkangiri, Jan, 22: In the OCA Under-14 Inter-District School Cricket Tournament, the Malkangiri team registered a victory in the opening match of the third phase’s preliminary league. The match between Malkangiri and KIIT was played today at the SOA Ground in Bhubaneswar, where Malkangiri defeated the KIIT team to secure a winning start.
After winning the toss, KIIT chose to field first. In the 50-over match, Malkangiri batted first and were bowled out for 110 runs in 32.4 overs. For Malkangiri, Nishant Ray and Rajesh Shyam contributed the highest runs with the bat.
In bowling, Sahil Sethi took 3 wickets, Ganga Beti claimed 3 wickets, and Rajesh Shyam picked up 2 wickets. Sahil Sethi, who conceded just 14 runs while taking 3 crucial wickets, was adjudged Man of the Match.
In reply, the KIIT team was bowled out for 85 runs in 35.5 overs, handing Malkangiri a 25-run victory.
With this win, Malkangiri has made a strong start in the third-phase preliminary league (Group Table D). The team will next face Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Puri, Rourkela, and Deogarh in the upcoming matches.
Following the first-match victory, there was noticeable enthusiasm among the players and support staff. During the match, former Indian cricket team manager Satbir Singh Rayar, team manager Akash Hiyal, and coach Vishal Malakar were present, boosting the morale of the players with their encouragement.
