Khordha, Jan, 24: With the support of the Directorate of Horticulture, strawberries have been cultivated for the first time in Khordha district using a completely organic method.
Farmer Sushant Kumar Bhol from Haj village under Begunia block has planted around 11,000 saplings on half an acre of land. The Directorate provided him with “Winter Dawn” variety saplings sourced from Himachal Pradesh, along with a solar drip borewell irrigation facility.
By cultivating strawberries, Sushant has now become quite profitable, with each plant yielding approximately 600 to 700 grams of fruit.
