Malkangiri:Feb 2: A 200-Year-Old Tradition Revived A tradition that had remained discontinued for nearly 200 years has been revived in Malkangiri district. The Yuvraj (Crown Prince) of Jeypore, Bishweshwar Chandrachud Dev, participated in the Patkhanda Yatra of the Bonda tribe residing in the district. The Yatra Committee organized a grand समारोह to welcome the member of the royal family.
The Patkhanda Yatra is considered one of the प्रमुख festivals of the Bonda tribe. The festival is believed to have begun nearly 500 years ago. In earlier times, the then King of Jeypore used to attend the Yatra and perform rituals as per tradition. However, the king’s visit had stopped about 200 years ago.
This year, following the old tradition, the Yatra Committee invited the Jeypore royal family to participate in the festival once again.
