Programme Organised to Educate Public on Senior Citizens’ Welfare Law

Nabarangpur,Feb, 9: An awareness camp on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 was held at Mission Shakti House in Nabarangpur. The camp was organized by the District Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department, with around 80 senior citizens participating.

Additional District Magistrate Tapan Khuntia, President of the Senior Citizens’ Forum Dr. Radhanath Behera, Secretary of Senior Citizens’ Forum (Gadabaguda) Alfred Khura, State Programme Coordinator Debashree Brahma, District Child Welfare Programme Officer Rama Pattnaik, and District Social Security Officer Sudhanshu Patra were present on the dais.

Shri Khuntia urged senior citizens to lead independent lives rather than being fully dependent on their sons and daughters. Other speakers discussed the challenges faced by senior citizens and how various government benefits and facilities could be effectively provided to them.

Senior citizen Narayan Panda emphasized the need for a large old-age home in the district. Among others present were senior citizens Jagannath Mahapatra, Niranjan Mishra, Sarojini Hial, Chandra Kumar Acharya, Prashant Kumar Bhatra, Sushil Kumar Mishra, Sanjay Takri, Prakash Nag, Bishnu Mahapatra, Manager Jyotimayee Dangari, Group Social Security Officer A. Dhanurjaya Rao, Brundaban Bebarsha, Shakuntala, Bhakti Prasad Behera, Indramani Mangaraj, Samson, and Mahendra.

The program was conducted by Fakir Kumar Rout, while Ashakiran President Jagannath Behera delivered the vote of thanks.
