Nabarangpur, Feb, 12: Turmeric produced in Kosagumuda block of Nabarangpur district will soon reach foreign markets. ORMAS has stepped forward to facilitate its marketing and will procure 50 tonnes of turmeric directly from farmers. The produce will then be sold in domestic as well as international markets.
In this connection, a training camp was organized at Rajoda in Kosagumuda with the support of ORMAS and the High Altitude Research Station (HARS), located at Pottangi in Koraput district.
The training programme was attended by HARS Director and ADR of RRTTS Semiliguda, Dr. Parshuram Sial; Dr. Shashank, Head of the Umerkote Krishi Vigyan Kendra; ORMAS Deputy CEO Roshan Kumar Kartik; Business Manager C.H. Ramesh Rao; FPO representative Bishwaranjan Nag; and retired Agriculture Officer Ashok Pattnaik, among others.
Farmers were trained in the proper process of boiling and drying turmeric after harvest. HARS will also provide a boiler worth ₹5 lakh to the Farmers Producer Company formed by the farmers. Using this boiler, farmers will boil the turmeric and then dry it properly.
ORMAS will purchase the processed turmeric from the producer group, with the objective of marketing it both in national and international markets.
