District-Level Workshop Highlights Legal Provisions to Curb Witch-Hunting

Rayagada, Feb, 25:  A district-level workshop on the prohibition of witch-hunting and awareness was held on Friday at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall in Rayagada district.

District Social Welfare Officer Minati Deo participated in the program. She stated that the initiative would help prevent inhuman acts such as harassment, social boycott, violence, and even murder carried out in the name of suspicion of witchcraft, particularly targeting women. She added that the district administration is making continuous efforts to completely eradicate this practice.

Among others present at the awareness camp were Additional District Public Health Officer Dr. Shyam Charan Guru, Additional District Information and Public Relations Officer Debaraj Takri, Additional District Education Officer Sasmita Behera, District Protection Officer Pratimarani Das, Program Officers Ahalya Suna, Minati Patra, and Hena Rani Pradhan.

Besides them, CDPOs, supervisors, Anganwadi workers, members of Sankalp Hub, One Stop Centre, Shakti Sadan staff, boys and girls, and members of voluntary women’s groups attended the workshop. All participants took an oath to remain vigilant against such practices and to help spread awareness in society.
