Jharsuguda, Feb, 28: In preparation for preventing and controlling forest fires during the summer season, a district-level “Forest Fire Awareness Meeting and Mock Drill” was organized at Katikela village by the Jharsuguda Forest Division under the Jharsuguda Forest Range.
The main objective of the program was to protect forest resources from fire hazards and to create awareness among the local community. On this occasion, officials and staff of the Fire Services Department demonstrated through a mock drill how to quickly control forest fires and carry out various rescue operations. Emphasis was also laid on maintaining coordination among different departments during such emergencies.
Students of Katikela Government Upper Primary School presented dance, music, and street plays to spread awareness about the dangers of forest fires and their prevention.
Forest Range Officer Bijay Kumar Pradhan conducted the program smoothly. The event was attended by the Deputy Sarpanch of Katikela, staff of the Kendu Leaf Department, forest personnel of the Jharsuguda Range, Fire Service officials, members of Self-Help Groups, Forest Protection Committee members, and a large number of villagers.
Speakers emphasized that collective community participation is essential for the protection of forests. The special squad of the Jharsuguda Forest Division also actively participated in the mock drill exercise.
