District-Level Workshop on ‘We Will Learn in Our Language’ Organized at Umarko

Nowrangpur,March, 5: One-day district-level workshop under the initiative ‘We Will Learn in Our Language’ was held at the Panchayat Samiti Hall in Umarkot. The workshop, organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, was inaugurated by District Collector Dr. Maheswar Rao as the chief guest.

Other dignitaries present included Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, DSWO Drapadi Kahor, DIET President Onkar Kar Pattnayak, DIPR Officer Manoj Behera, Video Officer Manoj Meher, and officials from the PIRA Mal Foundation.

The workshop aims to provide training to Anganwadi workers to implement the new early education curriculum ‘Nua Arunima’. Children will engage in activities like storytelling, songs, and dialogues in their mother tongue, creating a culturally and socially relevant learning environment. Through this program, Anganwadi staff will be trained to teach in the local language, helping children take their first steps in education in a familiar linguistic environment.

As part of a pilot initiative, children aged 3 to 6 in Anganwadi centers of Raighar block, Nowrangpur district will receive mother-tongue-based early education in the local Gond language.
According to Prakash Prak, the scheme ‘We Will Learn in Our Language’ is being implemented by the State Government’s Women and Child Development Department across six tribal districts – Malkangiri, Nowrangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi – in 180 Anganwadi centers. In Raighar block, Anganwadi workers, multilingual teachers, the Raighar Sarpanch, parents, and BEO officials participated in the program.
