Nabarangpur Gets Dedicated Cyber & Economic Crime Police Station

Nabarangpur, March, 11:Near D.S.3 Cinema in Nabarangpur, the new Cyber and Economic Crime Police Station was inaugurated and opened to the public by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah via virtual medium, in the presence of Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.

The event was attended by several dignitaries. The chief guest was Nabarangpur MLA Gaurishankar Majhi. Other notable attendees included District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Koraput) Dr. Kanwar Vishal Singh, Superintendent of Police and Nabarangpur District Police Chief Sandeep Sampad, Additional District Collector Bishwajit Barman, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sukant Satapathy, Additional Superintendent of Police Aditya Sen, Nabarangpur Municipal Vice Chairman Soumya Mahapatra, Police Inspector Ajay Kumar, Nabarangpur Town Police Officer Sambit Behera, District Sports Association officials including Manoj, Editor Kumar Pattnaik, Councilor Nagendra Pattnaik, and several prominent citizens and students.

During the ceremony, students from various educational institutions participated alongside district police and administrative officials. The new station will be staffed by one Additional Police Officer, four Station Officers, two Assistant Station Officers, and eight police personnel.

Earlier, the district police had launched Operation ‘Kavach’ to apprehend cyber criminals in Nabarangpur. Investigations revealed illegal transactions involving over crores of rupees across 255 bank accounts in the district. Several accounts were found to be benami (fake) accounts, leading to nine cases being registered across different police stations. Notices have been issued to 24 bank account holders.

In terms of cybercrime, in 2025, one case was registered in the district. Currently, eight new cases have been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
This new Cyber and Economic Crime Police Station is expected to significantly strengthen the district’s capability to prevent, investigate, and resolve cyber fraud and financial irregularities.
