Malkangiri Mar, 20: As per the directive of the Odisha State Bar Council, elections for all registered bar associations across the state were scheduled for March 28. The nomination filing process was held from March 7 to March 9.
By the last date of nomination (March 9), one candidate each had filed nominations for the posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and six Executive Body Members. Scrutiny of nomination papers took place on March 11, and on March 12, the results of the scrutiny were announced by Election Officer Rath Krishna Patra.
In his notice (No. 06), he informed that all nomination papers were found valid.
According to the scrutiny results:
President – Pritpal Singh
Vice-President – Saroj Kumar Mohanty
Secretary – Nrusingha Charan Mohanty
Joint Secretary – Sagar Panigrahi
Treasurer – Bibhu Asidan Sagaria
Executive Body Members – Jayanti Biswas, Nilakantha Biswas, Rumpa Debnath, Shailabala Panda, Narendra Kumar Chhatri, and Ramesh Duari
All were elected unopposed.
Although the election was scheduled for March 28 as per the State Bar Council’s direction, the names of all elected candidates of the Malkangiri District Bar Association have already been declared, informed Election Officer Shri Patra.
After the announcement of the scrutiny results today, members of the Bar Association, along with senior advocates, welcomed the newly elected representatives with flower garlands.
Since the Bar Council has directed that the election be held annually for a one-year term, and as there was mutual understanding among members this year resulting in unopposed elections, senior advocates expressed hope that this unity would help in the development of the Bar Association and ensure the protection of advocates’ rights, as well as better handling of their facilities and issues.
