Jharsuguda:Mar, 26: The process for the expansion of Veer Surendra Sai Airport (VSS) in Jharsuguda has gained momentum at the administrative level. A master plan has been prepared to upgrade the airport to international standards and to facilitate the landing of large aircraft such as the Boeing 777.
The Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department, N.B.S. Rajput, conducted a high-level review meeting at the airport premises to assess the expansion plans. On this occasion, Jharsuguda District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan was present and provided detailed information regarding land acquisition and administrative preparations.
Key Points:
Land Acquisition: An additional 235 acres of land is required for the expansion. The District Collector informed the Principal Secretary that steps are being taken to expedite the acquisition process.
Technical Upgradation: Once the additional land is secured, the runway and terminal will be expanded, enabling the airport to handle larger passenger aircraft with ease.
Objective: Currently limited to domestic operations, the airport is set to be upgraded to international standards through joint efforts of the state government and the district administration.
The review meeting was also attended by Airport Director Upendra Dhoundia and other senior district officials. The expansion of the airport is expected to open a new chapter in the economic growth and tourism development of western Odisha.
