Jeypore, March 31: World Theatre Day was celebrated at the Senior Citizens’ Association in Jeypore, organized by a cultural institution of Jeypore in Koraput district.
The कार्यक्रम began with welcoming the guests and artists, followed by a discussion on the significance of World Theatre Day and the role of theatre in the development of society. The meeting was presided over by convener Niranjan Panigrahi, who stated that the true purpose of Theatre Day can be fulfilled if theatre not only entertains people but also contributes to social welfare and awareness.
Senior dramatists and intellectuals including Uday Shankar Jani, Gopal Samantaray, Prakash Mohanty, writer Laxmikant Padhi, M.D. Sharif, Ravi Patra, Suresh Hota, Gupta Prasad Panigrahi, Shishir Das, Tukuna Das, Kishore Mishra, Ashok Jena, Krishna Kuldeep, Bablu Hero, Sameer Satpathy, Liti, Pinku, Dr. Gayatri Devi, and many other artists participated in the discussion. They expressed that Jeypore is a center of art and culture.
Speakers highlighted the important role of theatre in India’s freedom movement and emphasized that, after the Vedas, theatre has made a significant contribution to literature and society. The relationship between Jagannath culture and theatre was also explained by Padhi. The importance of theatre in education and the role of Akashvani Jeypore in promoting theatre were also discussed.
Remembering veteran artists evoked a sense of nostalgia and enthusiasm among the participants.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Anil Jena, who also spoke about upcoming plays such as “Mate Banchibaku Dia” (Let Me Live), “Pratiksha”, and “Chhamu Jahadela Harase”.
