Farmers in Nayagarh Start Jute Cultivation Amid Favorable Weather Conditions

Daspalla, April 23:  Jute cultivation has been initiated in Nayagarh district with financial assistance from the Jute Corporation of India.
Gradually, jute will be cultivated over 170 acres of land across six blocks of the district—Odagaon, Ranpur, Khandapada, Daspalla, Nayagarh, and Nuagaon. As a first step, seeds have been distributed by the Jute Corporation in Kurudangi village of Odagaon block and Kadua village of Khandapada block.
According to departmental estimates, if farmers cultivate properly, they can earn between ₹20,000 to ₹1,20,000 per hectare.
Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Secretary of the Nayagarh Harijan Adivasi Mangal Samiti, which has played a key role in implementing the initiative, stated that after cultivation, farmers will not need to go to the mandi (market), as traders will directly procure the produce from them.
In this program, Sunita Dasgupta (Coordinator of HAMPs), Kanksha Parida, Raghu Behera, Jagannath Pradhan, Ranjan Sahu, and others extended their support.
