Gandhinagar/Surat,Apr 27 (BNP): The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC), scheduled to be held on May 1 and 2 at Auro University, Surat, is expected to emerge as a major platform for accelerating industrial development across South Gujarat, according to an official release.
The ambitious initiative aims to attract large-scale investments in key sectors, particularly textiles, while creating stronger direct linkages between global buyers and local manufacturers. It will also encourage the exchange of advanced technologies, innovation, and modern business practices, providing fresh momentum to the industrial growth of Surat and the wider South Gujarat region.
Industry experts believe the conference will play a crucial role in strengthening Surat’s position as one of India’s leading textile and manufacturing centres. The event is also expected to create new business opportunities, promote exports, and generate employment in the region.
Situated on the banks of the Tapi River, Surat has been a historic centre of trade and commerce since the Mughal era due to its strategic location. Once a thriving port city in the 16th century, Surat has transformed into the world-renowned “Silk City” in the modern era. Its legacy is deeply connected to the export of silk fabrics to Arab and European markets centuries ago.
Over the years, the city has successfully diversified from natural silk production to becoming a major hub for man-made fibre (MMF) and art silk industries, further cementing its reputation as a global textile powerhouse.
The VGRC is expected to build on this rich legacy and open new doors of investment, innovation, and industrial expansion for Surat’s textile ecosystem.
