Bargarh, May 25: A sudden Kalbaisakhi storm triggered panic in Bargarh after the iconic Dhanu Yatra decorative gate at Thana Chowk collapsed amid strong winds and heavy rainfall on Monday afternoon, injuring two persons.

According to reports, the arch-like structure, installed as part of the town’s Dhanu Yatra beautification, gave way during intense gusty winds that swept across the district headquarters town, catching passersby off guard in the busy locality. The collapse created panic among residents and commuters as debris fell onto the road.
The injured persons, who were reportedly standing near the gate when the structure came crashing down, were immediately rescued and rushed to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. Their health condition was not immediately known.
Following the incident, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue and clearance operations to remove debris and restore normal movement in the area. Authorities have begun assessing the damage and are expected to examine the structural stability of similar installations in the wake of severe weather conditions.
The Kalbaisakhi storm disrupted normal life in several parts of Bargarh district, with strong winds and heavy rainfall affecting traffic movement and daily activities. The incident has also raised concerns about public safety and the durability of temporary decorative structures during extreme weather events.
