Kotpad, May 27: A severe Kalbaisakhi storm that struck various areas of Kotpad block on Friday night caused widespread destruction. The storm displayed its devastating impact across villages including Teliguda, S. Dharagudi, Barandi, Sirsi, and Dangari.
Due to heavy rainfall and strong winds, several large trees fell on houses, damaging roofs and household belongings. The Kotpad Fire Services Department reached the affected areas and continued rescue and tree-clearing operations till late at night.
After learning about the incident, local MLA Rupu Bhatra, Kotpad Additional Tahsildar Parshuram Bhatra, MLA representative Suren Mohanty, and other officials visited the affected areas on Saturday. Revenue department officials, including the Revenue Inspector and other staff members, were also present to assess the damage.
During the visit, the MLA interacted with the affected families, listened to their problems, and assured them that the government stands firmly with them during this difficult time. He told the victims that they should never feel alone, as the “people’s government” is always there to support them.
Tarpaulins and emergency relief materials were distributed to each affected family. The MLA also requested the administration to provide assistance for damaged houses and ensure that all eligible government support and facilities reach the affected people as soon as possible.
