Bhubaneswar, June 1:: The Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSTA) has demanded that the vacant headmaster posts in government schools across the state be filled immediately. In a press statement, OSTA General Secretary Ranjan Kumar Das said that more than 2,600 secondary schools in Odisha are currently without headmasters.
He stated that in most schools, senior assistant teachers are handling the responsibilities of headmasters. Due to the additional burden of replying to official communications sent by the state government along with teaching students, they are unable to conduct classes properly. In some cases, other assistant teachers are also not accepting the authority of the teachers in charge of the schools.
Although the government has filled some teaching posts through new recruitment, many schools still have vacant assistant teacher positions, and these vacancies have not yet been fully addressed. OSTA further expressed disappointment that the government’s historic initiative to create a cadre of 23,383 assistant teachers has not been implemented effectively.
The association warned that if the vacant headmaster posts in government schools are not filled at the earliest, students’ education will suffer seriously. OSTA leaders stated that unless immediate steps are taken to appoint headmasters, the government will be held responsible for any public dissatisfaction that may arise in the future.
This warning was jointly issued by OSTA President Akshaya Kumar Mishra, Working President Nilamani Purohit, General Secretary Ranjan Kumar Das, Joint General Secretary Braja Kishore Biswal, Treasurer Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, and Shikshapradeep Editor Shankar Kumar Subuddhi.
