State Government’s Infrastructure Development Scheme Boosts Rabi Paddy Procurement in Jharsuguda District

Jharsuguda, June 2:  The Rabi paddy procurement process was formally launched in Jharsuguda district at the newly constructed Kolabira Paddy Procurement Center under the state government’s special scheme for the development of necessary infrastructure at paddy procurement centers and mandis.

The inaugural ceremony of the KMS (Kharif Marketing Season) district-level Rabi paddy procurement programme was held today. Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy attended as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the procurement process by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Following traditional Vedic rituals and prayers, the paddy weighing process commenced in the presence of farmers.

Among the distinguished guests present at the event were Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies Mrs. Mamata Rani Kujur, Additional District Supply Officer Pitambar Sethi, ARCS Ramesh Chandra Toppo, RMC Secretary Kishore Chandra Nayak, Kolabira PACS President Kirti Chandra Bohidar, and Jhirlapali Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Tilottama Chhachan. They encouraged and motivated the farmers during the programme.

It is noteworthy that around 2,350 farmers from Jharsuguda district have registered to sell paddy during the current Rabi season, while a total of 28 PACS (Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies) across the district have joined the procurement process. To facilitate farmers at the mandi, arrangements have been made for electronic weighing machines, moisture measuring devices, adequate tarpaulins, and CCTV cameras to ensure transparency and cleanliness.

Addressing the assembled farmers and public, MLA Tankadhar Tripathy stated that under the successful leadership of the visionary Chief Minister, Odisha is progressing steadily on the path of development. He said that during the last two years, the government’s achievements have not only focused on infrastructure development but have also prioritized the economic prosperity of farmers.

He further emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring fair prices for the hard-earned produce of every farmer and maintaining complete transparency in the mandi procurement process. Advising farmers to adopt modern and profitable agricultural practices, he urged them not to rely solely on traditional paddy cultivation. Instead, farmers should embrace mixed and diversified farming practices, including vegetables, pulses, and cash crops along with paddy cultivation, which would help double their income.

He remarked, “Farmers are the backbone of the nation, and the true progress of Odisha lies in the smiles of our farmers.” He assured that the government always stands with farmers and protecting their interests remains its highest priority.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local representatives, members of farmer organizations, cooperative department officials, and a large number of local residents. Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies Mrs. Mamata Rani Kujur stated that the district administration and cooperative department are fully prepared to ensure that farmers can sell their paddy smoothly and without any inconvenience during the current procurement season.
