Over 1.45 Crore Voters Covered in Odisha Electoral Roll Revision Drive

Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign underway in Odisha, aimed at ensuring a transparent, updated and error-free electoral roll, has recorded significant progress within a week of its launch, according to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha.

As of Friday evening, enumeration forms have been distributed to and collected from 1,45,18,212 voters, accounting for 43.47 per cent of the state’s total 3,33,99,591 registered electors. Officials said the exercise is progressing steadily and remains on track for completion well before the June 28 deadline.

The SIR programme was launched following the issuance of guidelines on May 30 and is being implemented across the state through an extensive field-level exercise. A total of 45,255 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed to carry out door-to-door distribution and collection of enumeration forms in urban, rural, tribal, and remote areas.

Under the process, each voter is being provided with two pre-printed enumeration forms. After completion, one copy is retained by the BLO, while the second copy is returned to the elector with the officer’s signature as an acknowledgment receipt. Authorities have advised voters to preserve this copy for future reference.

To ensure wide participation, district administrations have stepped up awareness campaigns across Odisha. Outreach initiatives include awareness chariots in rural areas, microphone announcements, hoardings, LED displays, and targeted social media campaigns aimed particularly at young voters.

Election authorities have clarified that no additional documents are required during the enumeration process, making it simple and accessible for all eligible voters. Citizens also have the option to download the form from the Election Commission’s voter services portal, complete it, and submit it online.

To strengthen transparency and coordination, 33,026 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) nominated by various political parties are assisting BLOs at the grassroots level.

Officials from the Election Department and district administrations are working in close coordination to ensure comprehensive coverage of all eligible voters under the SIR programme, with the objective of leaving no elector out of the revision process.

The initiative is being seen as a key step toward strengthening the accuracy and inclusiveness of Odisha’s electoral database.
