Dumuriput, June 12: A state-level workshop against child labour was organized at Sadbhavana Sabhagruha through the joint initiative of the Koraput district administration and the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The programme, held under the chairmanship of District Collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan, resolved to make the district completely free from child labour. A pledge was taken that children should hold books in their hands, not hammers.
Under the guidance of Commission Chairperson Babita Patra, officials from various departments took an oath to work towards the elimination of child labour.
On this occasion, Professor Biraj Swain from the National Law University delivered an informative discussion on the realities of the Child Labour Prohibition Act and the Right to Education Act.
Emphasis was also laid on developing special training centres for rescued children as a “second home” and ensuring coordinated support among the Labour, Education, and SC-ST Development Departments.
The workshop was attended by Additional District Magistrate Tapan Kumar Nayak, Sub-Collector Premlal Hial, Commission members Kasturi Mishra, Manasmita Khuntia, and Sujata Nayak, along with representatives from various voluntary organizations and child support centres.
