Woman Dies, Husband Critically Injured in Khallikote Fire Incident; Police Probe Alleged Murder Angle

Khallikote, June 23 (UDN): A woman died and her husband sustained critical burn injuries after a fire incident at Mathura village under Khallikote police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district late Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Anita Pradhan, while her husband, Ramesh Pradhan, is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.

According to reports, the couple suffered severe burn injuries in the incident and was initially rushed to the Khallikote Community Health Centre for emergency treatment. Later, due to the seriousness of their condition, both were referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Anita Pradhan succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Monday while undergoing treatment. Her husband continues to remain under medical care.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has lodged a written complaint with Khallikote police, alleging that the incident was not accidental and claiming it to be a case of murder. Preliminary inputs suggest the possibility of a family dispute behind the incident.

Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and to verify the allegations made by the family.
