The scheme, approved by the state Cabinet, is designed to provide financial support to cooperative societies engaged in fertiliser distribution, enabling them to procure and supply adequate stocks during peak agricultural seasons.
Under the new initiative, Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), Large-sized Adivasi Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS) and other cooperative institutions will receive interest subvention on loans availed for fertiliser procurement. The move is expected to ease their financial burden and enhance their capacity to maintain sufficient fertiliser stocks.
Officials said the scheme would play a crucial role in ensuring uninterrupted supply of fertilisers, particularly during the Kharif and Rabi seasons, thereby benefiting lakhs of farmers across the state.
The Cabinet’s approval comes at a time when Odisha is gearing up for the ongoing Kharif season amid concerns over erratic monsoon conditions. The enhanced support to cooperative institutions is expected to improve last-mile delivery and prevent shortages in rural areas.
The state government said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening the cooperative sector and supporting farmers through timely access to essential agricultural inputs.
