Bhadrak, June 30 (UDN): A Class 9 schoolgirl survived a petrol attack in the Lanjara Chowk area under Fatepur Panchayat within Dhusuri police station limits of Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday morning.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, a 32-year-old man from Dharmagatpur village had allegedly been harassing the student for some time. The complaint stated that when the girl rejected his advances, the accused intercepted her on her way to school and allegedly poured petrol on her in an attempt to set her on fire.
Hearing the victim’s cries, local residents rushed to the spot and overpowered the accused before the situation could escalate further. He was subsequently detained by locals and handed over to Dhusuri police.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. The accused is currently in custody, and further legal action is underway.
Locals claimed the accused had been previously married twice; however, police said all aspects of the case are being verified as part of the ongoing investigation.
