Stray Dog Attacks Class I Student Inside Ganjam School, Sparks Safety Concerns

The incident took place at Maa Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir in Mahanala village under Patapur police limits in Sanakhemundi block. According to sources, the young student had gone to the rear side of the school campus when a stray dog suddenly pounced on her and bit her, leaving her injured.

Hearing the child’s cries for help, teachers, school staff and local residents rushed to the spot, drove away the animal and rescued the student. She was immediately shifted to the Adapada Community Health Centre, where doctors administered first aid and anti-rabies treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.

The incident has once again brought the issue of stray dogs roaming near educational institutions into sharp focus, with parents expressing concern over the safety of schoolchildren. Residents alleged that stray dogs have become a common sight in the locality, posing a constant threat to children and pedestrians.

The latest attack comes barely a month after another school-going child in the same area was reportedly injured in a similar stray dog attack, raising questions over the effectiveness of measures to curb the growing canine menace.

Locals have urged the district administration and civic authorities to take immediate action, including intensified sterilisation and vaccination drives, removal of aggressive stray dogs from sensitive locations, and enhanced monitoring around schools to prevent such incidents from recurring.
