Bhubaneswar, July 13 (UDN): Odisha has intensified COVID-19 surveillance measures across its border districts following reports of two COVID-related deaths in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, with health authorities placing officials on alert ahead of the upcoming Puri Rath Yatra 2026.

The state health department has directed Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) of districts sharing a border with Andhra Pradesh to strengthen monitoring, remain vigilant, and ensure timely response to any emerging health concerns.

The precautionary measures have been initiated as large numbers of devotees and visitors are expected to gather in Puri for the annual Rath Yatra celebrations. Authorities are focusing on maintaining public health preparedness while ensuring the smooth conduct of the festival.

Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and reviewing preparedness measures, including surveillance, awareness initiatives, and coordination among district-level healthcare teams.
