Jharsuguda:July 14 [UDN}: A district-level workshop on “Business Diversification in Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS)” was successfully organized at the DMF Auditorium, Yam Hall, located within the premises of the Jharsuguda Collectorate.
Along with the workshop, the district also marked the successful conclusion of the week-long “Cooperation Week” celebrations, observed from June 29 to July 6, in connection with the foundation anniversary celebrations of the Union Ministry of Cooperation.
The primary objective of the workshop was to encourage PACS to move beyond their traditional role of providing agricultural loans and expand into diverse business activities that would strengthen their financial position and enable them to offer a wider range of services to their members.
Detailed discussions were held on various opportunities for business expansion through allied activities such as the supply of agricultural inputs and seeds, dairy production, fisheries, horticulture, grain storage facilities, Custom Hiring Centres, and Common Service Centres.
The programme was attended by District Cooperative Societies Registrar Mrs. Mamata Rani Kujur, the Chief District Agriculture Officer, Assistant Horticulture Officer, Chief District Veterinary Officer, Assistant General Manager of SAMUL, officials from the Cooperative Department, and presidents and secretaries of all PACS operating in the district.
Speakers at the workshop highlighted the crucial role of cooperative societies in strengthening the rural economy and advised the participants to adopt diversified business models in line with the vision of the Union Ministry of Cooperation.
Participants actively interacted with subject experts during the discussions and expressed their commitment to adopting innovative business strategies for the overall development of their respective cooperative societies.
The week-long Cooperative Week celebrations in Jharsuguda concluded with a vote of thanks and the formal closing of the programme.
