Bargarh, July 15 (UDN): Barpali Railway Station in Odisha’s Bargarh district is set to receive a major boost with its redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The upgraded station will be among the 75 railway stations across the country to be dedicated to the nation on July 17.
Developed with an investment of around Rs 22 crore, the redeveloped station has been equipped with modern facilities aimed at improving passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility. The project focuses on creating a more efficient and passenger-friendly railway experience while preserving the region’s cultural heritage.
The upgraded station features an expanded station building, improved passenger areas, a new entrance portico, and enhanced circulation facilities. A 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge with ramps has been added to ensure easier movement for passengers, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Passenger amenities have also been strengthened with improved waiting halls, upgraded toilets, additional platform shelters, resurfaced platforms, better approach roads, and modern passenger information systems.
Adding a local touch to the redevelopment, the station’s design reflects the rich cultural traditions of western Odisha. Architectural elements inspired by the famous Barpali Ikat handloom tradition, along with motifs representing local folk art and heritage, give the station a unique identity.
The modernisation of Barpali Railway Station is expected to improve regional connectivity and support economic activities such as agriculture, trade, tourism, handloom, and small businesses. Better rail infrastructure will provide improved access to markets and services for communities across the region.
The redevelopment is part of Indian Railways’ nationwide effort to transform stations into modern transport centres with improved facilities, better accessibility, and designs that celebrate local culture. The initiative marks another step towards creating a safer, smarter, and more comfortable railway network for passengers.
