Bhubaneswar, July 17 (UDN): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Puri, forecasting cloudy skies, intermittent moderate rainfall and possible light thunder activity during the ongoing Rath Yatra celebrations.

The IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has advised devotees and visitors attending the festival to remain cautious as changing weather conditions may affect movement and outdoor activities. The forecast indicates that Puri is likely to experience moderate rain spells over the next few hours, with high humidity levels expected to continue.

According to the weather update, temperatures in Puri are likely to remain between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels are expected to stay high. Authorities are monitoring the weather situation closely as thousands of devotees have gathered for the annual chariot festival.

The IMD has issued safety guidelines for pilgrims, advising them to seek shelter during lightning, thunderstorms, heavy rainfall or strong winds. Devotees have been urged to avoid standing near trees, electric poles or temporary structures during adverse weather conditions.

Elderly people, children and those with health concerns have been advised to take extra precautions, avoid prolonged exposure to rain and remain careful while moving through crowded areas. Pilgrims have also been encouraged to use suitable footwear on wet surfaces and stay updated with official weather alerts.

Authorities have requested devotees to take necessary precautions, protect valuables from rain and follow safety instructions to ensure a safe and smooth Rath Yatra experience.
