NHAI Expands Green Corridor Efforts in Odisha with Over One Lakh Highway Plantations

Bhubaneswar, July 17: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Regional Office Odisha, has planted more than 1.14 lakh saplings along various national highway corridors across the state as part of its Mega Plantation Drive 2026.

The initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing green cover along highway networks and supporting environmental sustainability. The plantation drive is part of NHAI’s broader target of planting around 2.6 lakh saplings across Odisha during the 2026-27 financial year.

The newly planted saplings are expected to contribute towards improving roadside greenery, reducing environmental impact and promoting eco-friendly infrastructure development along national highways.

Officials said the plantation programme reflects NHAI’s commitment to integrating environmental conservation with road development. The initiative focuses on creating greener highway corridors while supporting long-term ecological balance.

The drive involved plantation activities across multiple highway stretches in Odisha, with efforts aimed at ensuring proper maintenance and growth of the saplings in the coming years.

NHAI continues to undertake green initiatives across the country as part of its efforts to promote sustainable infrastructure and strengthen environmental protection alongside highway expansion.
