Bhubaneswar: July 21 [UDN}:Odisha is set to witness a major transformation in its healthcare sector, with advanced cancer treatment now being made available under the Ayushman Card scheme. The state government has decided to add 121 new treatment packages for cancer care. According to Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, these new packages are more effective than the existing treatment options and will significantly benefit patients.
The minister said the government aims to expand cancer treatment services and make them more accessible to the public, ensuring that no cancer patient has to discontinue treatment due to financial constraints.
The newly introduced packages include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other complex surgical procedures. This announcement has brought hope and relief to thousands of cancer patients across the state.
Mr. Mahaling informed that while the Ayushman Bharat scheme offers around 1,900 treatment packages nationwide, Odisha provides more than 2,100 packages. This year, the state has also launched the Chief Minister’s Cancer Care Scheme. The 121 new cancer treatment packages will be included under the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), with treatment costs fully funded by the state government.
The minister emphasized that the Odisha government is committed to ensuring that no economically disadvantaged person is deprived of quality healthcare.
It is worth noting that the Centre and the Odisha Government have signed an agreement to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state. Health cards have already been distributed to eligible beneficiaries under both Ayushman Bharat and the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY).
