Ganjam, July 21: A group of women from Palakasandha village in Ganjam district is bringing new hope to traditional craftsmanship by reviving the region’s unique brass fish craft and turning it into a sustainable source of income.
Around 20 women from the village under Belaguntha block are engaged in creating handcrafted brass fish and shrimp items, preserving an age-old art form while building financial independence through their skills.
With support through training programmes and government initiatives, the women have developed expertise in designing and producing decorative brass items that are gaining popularity for home décor, gifting, and cultural purposes.
The initiative has not only helped safeguard a traditional craft but has also opened new livelihood opportunities for women in the village. By combining creativity with entrepreneurship, the artisans are showcasing how local skills can contribute to economic empowerment.
