Bhubaneswar, July 22 (UDN): In an effort to make emergency response faster and more effective, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has trained its frontline employees in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), empowering them with skills that can help save lives during sudden cardiac emergencies.
The training session, organised on the occasion of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) CPR Day-2026, focused on preparing sanitation inspectors and other field staff to provide immediate assistance before medical teams arrive. Doctors and healthcare experts demonstrated CPR techniques and explained how quick action during the first few critical minutes can improve a patient’s chances of survival.
Participants learned how to identify cardiac arrest situations, check for breathing and pulse, perform chest compressions, and provide rescue breaths. The session also included guidance on CPR methods for children and newborns, ensuring that employees are prepared to respond to emergencies involving people of all age groups.
BMC Mayor Sulochana Das said that civic employees often work closely with residents and can become valuable first responders during unexpected health emergencies. She highlighted that even saving a single life through these skills would make the initiative worthwhile.
BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana encouraged wider awareness of CPR training, saying that life-saving knowledge should reach every family and community. He stressed that quick action and basic emergency skills can make a significant difference when medical help is not immediately available.
The programme brought together BMC officials, doctors, and medical experts who guided participants through practical demonstrations. The initiative reflects BMC’s commitment to creating a more aware, prepared, and responsive community where citizens can receive timely support during critical situations.
