Bhubaneswar, July 22 (UDN): Several parts of Odisha witnessed intense rainfall in the past 24 hours as an active low-pressure system continued to influence weather conditions across the state. Athagarh in Cuttack district recorded the highest rainfall, receiving 206 mm of rain by Wednesday morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heavy downpour affected multiple districts, with several locations recording very heavy to heavy rainfall. Hatadihi in Keonjhar received 190.2 mm, Gurundia in Sundargarh recorded 165 mm, Khaira in Balasore received 139 mm, and Bhatli in Bargarh reported 124.8 mm of rainfall.
Rainfall was also reported from several areas across Sonepur, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, and other districts, leading to concerns over waterlogging in low-lying areas and possible flooding in vulnerable locations.
The IMD data showed that one station recorded extremely heavy rainfall, while several others experienced very heavy and heavy showers during the period. Weather officials said the prevailing monsoon conditions are likely to continue over Odisha in the coming days due to the influence of the low-pressure system.
Authorities have advised residents, especially those in vulnerable areas, to remain alert and follow weather advisories. People have also been urged to take necessary precautions while travelling during periods of intense rainfall.
The state administration and local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and taking steps to address possible rain-related challenges.
