Bhubaneswar, July 22 (UDN): The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has taken a major step towards modernising railway security with the launch of DSC ARJUN (Dedicated Security Chassis Advanced Railway Junction Under Network Enabled Surveillance), an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered robotic surveillance platform designed to enhance passenger safety and strengthen security management.
The advanced robotic system was introduced in the presence of senior railway officials and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, marking a significant milestone in ECoR’s efforts to develop a smarter and technology-driven security ecosystem.
Equipped with Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, DSC ARJUN will assist RPF personnel in round-the-clock monitoring, early threat detection, and faster response during security-related situations.
The robotic platform comes with advanced features such as AI-based facial recognition, crowd monitoring, passenger counting, unattended baggage detection, suspicious activity identification, public announcements, live video streaming, and instant alert generation.
Designed to support railway security teams, DSC ARJUN can be deployed at railway platforms, station entrances, waiting areas, booking counters, parking zones, parcel offices, and other sensitive locations requiring enhanced surveillance.
Officials said the introduction of the AI-powered system will improve situational awareness, help prevent security incidents, manage passenger movement during busy periods, and support quick action during emergencies such as medical situations, fire incidents, and security threats.
The initiative builds upon the Indian Railways’ earlier efforts to integrate robotic technology into security operations. With DSC ARJUN, East Coast Railway aims to further strengthen preventive policing and create a safer travel environment for millions of passengers.
The railway authorities highlighted that technology-driven solutions like DSC ARJUN will complement the efforts of RPF personnel by improving efficiency, responsiveness, and passenger confidence while safeguarding railway infrastructure.
The launch represents another step towards building a safer, smarter, and more passenger-focused railway network through the effective use of emerging technologies.
