Balasore, July 25 (UDN): A couple from West Bengal was seriously injured after being attacked by a bear near the popular Panchalingeswar shrine in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday.
The incident took place in the hill area under the Nilgiri forest range, where movement of wild animals has been reported in the past. The couple, who had visited the shrine, encountered the bear during their visit and sustained injuries in the attack.
Following the incident, locals and visitors gathered at the spot and helped in providing assistance to the injured couple. They were later taken for medical treatment.
Forest officials are monitoring the area and assessing the situation to prevent further incidents. Authorities have urged visitors to remain cautious while moving through forest-adjacent areas, especially where wildlife activity has been reported.
The incident has highlighted the need for greater awareness and safety measures around popular tourist and religious destinations located close to forest zones.
