Cuttack, July 27 (UDN): Floodwaters of the Mahanadi River have once again reached the premises of the revered Maa Bhattarika Temple at Badamba in Cuttack district, marking the second such occurrence this year due to rising river levels.
The latest rise in water levels has been triggered by continuous rainfall in the region and the release of water from the Hirakud Dam. The floodwaters have entered the temple courtyard and reached the boundary area, creating concern among devotees and temple authorities.
However, the sanctum and the idol of Maa Bhattarika remain safe, and regular rituals at the shrine are continuing without disruption. Temple officials and servitors are closely monitoring the situation and have kept precautionary measures ready in case the water level increases further.
Authorities have prepared arrangements to shift the deity to a safer location near the temple if required. The Endowment Department and local administration are keeping a close watch on the Mahanadi’s water level and the evolving flood situation.
The repeated rise of floodwaters at the temple this year highlights the impact of heavy rainfall and increased river discharge in the Mahanadi basin, with officials continuing to monitor conditions closely.
