Bhubaneswar, July 27: The Government of India has approved the upgradation of 71 government secondary schools in Odisha into higher secondary schools for Classes XI and XII under the Samagra Shiksha programme for the academic year 2026-27.
The Union Ministry of Education’s Project Approval Board (PAB) has sanctioned ₹140.74 crore in financial support for infrastructure development in these schools, including classrooms, science laboratories, and other essential facilities.
Among the approved schools, 60 will introduce Arts streams and 11 will offer Science streams. The selection was made based on recommendations from district administrations.
Ganjam district received approval for the highest number of schools at 12, followed by Malkangiri with six schools, and Balasore, Balangir, and Nabarangpur with five each.
The initiative is expected to strengthen higher secondary education facilities in Odisha, especially in rural and remote areas, by providing students with better access to education closer to their homes.
