Nabarangpur, July 28 UDN}: A district-level monitoring committee meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Nabarangpur District Collector’s Office under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain. The meeting focused on the development and promotion of Nabarangpur’s traditional and oldest lac handicraft industry.
The meeting discussed various measures to ensure that handicraft products made by local artisans receive proper recognition and reach wider markets. Discussions were also held on providing better facilities, fair prices, and adequate support to artisans engaged in producing traditional lac handicrafts and other handmade products.
Several officials and members of the committee attended the meeting, including representatives from the district administration, banking sector, District Industries Centre, Odisha Livelihoods Mission and the handicrafts department.
Award-winning lac artisan MCP Kumari Prajati Patra, Handicraft Development Officer Gaurav Soren, Debashish Kogi, and lac artisan Kalicharan were also present.
The committee emphasized the need to preserve Nabarangpur’s rich traditional handicraft heritage while ensuring better livelihood opportunities and sustainable development for local artisans.
