Koraput, July 28 (UDN): The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha on Tuesday reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls in the Kotia region of Koraput district, directing field officials to ensure a transparent, inclusive and error-free voter registration process.
As part of the review, Jitendra Kumar Patra, Deputy Secretary to the Government of Odisha, visited Kotia to assess the progress of the claims and objections stage of the electoral roll revision programme.
During the visit, Patra inspected several polling stations and reviewed applications received for the inclusion, deletion and correction of names in the electoral roll. He also interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), election officials and other field functionaries to evaluate the pace of the ongoing revision exercise.
Officials briefed him on the number of claims and objections received so far, along with the steps being taken for their verification and timely disposal.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, Patra instructed election personnel to prepare a clean, accurate and impartial electoral roll by ensuring that every application is examined strictly in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
He also directed officials to dispose of all claims and objections within the prescribed timeline while ensuring that eligible voters do not face unnecessary difficulties during the revision process.
Senior officials from the district administration and the election department accompanied the Deputy Secretary during the inspection and presented updates on the implementation of the SIR-2026 exercise in the Kotia region.
The Special Intensive Revision is a periodic exercise undertaken to update electoral rolls by including eligible voters, removing ineligible entries and correcting existing records ahead of future elections.
