Puri:July 29 UDN}: The sacred Banakalagi Niti, an important ritual of the Holy Trinity at the Shree Jagannath Temple, will be performed today. In view of the ritual, the Sarbasadharana Darshan, or general public darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, will remain suspended for approximately five hours.
According to the schedule, devotees will not be allowed to have public darshan of the deities from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. During this period, the temple servitors will carry out the traditional Banakalagi ritual as part of the daily and periodic religious observances of the deities.
The Banakalagi Niti is a significant ritual in which the deities are ceremonially adorned with natural colours and traditional materials, enhancing their divine appearance. The ritual is conducted by specially designated servitors with devotion and strict adherence to established traditions and customs.
As the ritual requires a private and uninterrupted environment inside the sanctum, general devotees will not have access to darshan during the scheduled period. Devotees planning to visit the temple today are therefore advised to take note of the timing and plan their visit accordingly.
After the completion of the Banakalagi ritual and the subsequent rituals associated with it, public darshan is expected to resume, allowing devotees to once again have the opportunity to seek the blessings of the Holy Trinity.
The temporary suspension of darshan is part of the established religious practice of the Srimandir and is observed whenever such important rituals are performed. Devotees are requested to cooperate with the temple administration and servitors and follow all instructions during their visit to the holy city of Puri.
