Bhubaneswar, July 30: The flood situation in Odisha is showing signs of improvement as rainfall intensity has reduced and river water levels have started declining in several affected regions. However, the state government continues to closely monitor vulnerable areas and maintain relief operations.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari reviewed the latest flood situation and conducted an aerial survey of the worst-affected districts, including Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Keonjhar, to assess damage and the progress of rescue and relief work.
The government said thousands of people affected by flooding have been moved to safer locations, with relief centres providing shelter and essential support. District administrations are working to ensure food, drinking water, medical assistance, and other necessary services for affected communities.
Authorities reported that flood impact remains significant in some areas, particularly in Bhadrak, Balasore, and Jajpur districts. River levels are being continuously monitored, while water discharge from major reservoirs and rivers is being managed carefully to reduce risks in downstream areas.
Improved weather conditions and reduced rainfall in upstream regions have brought some relief, but officials remain alert as water movement continues in certain low-lying areas.
The Housing & Urban Development Department is also carrying out emergency drainage operations in urban areas affected by waterlogging. Pump sets, manpower, and machinery have been deployed to remove stagnant water, clear drainage channels, and restore normal conditions.
The Odisha government has assured that rescue, relief, and monitoring efforts will continue until the situation returns to normal, with priority given to public safety and timely assistance for affected residents.
