Nabarangpur, Aug. 3 (UDN): In a district where migration has long been a way of life, a young entrepreneur is rewriting the future for hundreds of families by bringing employment closer to home.

Krushna Chandra Nayak, an entrepreneur from Khuntia village in Nandahandi block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, has established a bio-fertilizer manufacturing unit that is not only promoting sustainable agriculture but also generating large-scale local employment. The venture has emerged as a beacon of hope for families who once depended on seasonal migration to earn a livelihood.
Launched in 2021, the enterprise now provides direct employment to around 100 people, while another 200 are engaged through marketing, distribution and other allied activities. Many of the beneficiaries are former migrant workers who had spent years travelling to states such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in search of work.
For workers like Kshiramani Harijan, who was forced to migrate after losing her husband, the factory has brought financial stability and the opportunity to remain close to her family. Others, including Arjun Baipari and N. Supriya, have also found secure employment that has helped them support their households without leaving their villages.
Speaking about his initiative, Krushna Chandra Nayak said that creating sustainable livelihoods for rural families has always been his primary goal. He said seeing workers become financially independent and lead dignified lives is the greatest reward for his efforts.
Beyond employment generation, the unit is contributing to the promotion of organic farming by producing bio-fertilizers that improve soil health and enhance crop productivity. Agriculture officials say the initiative is encouraging farmers to adopt eco-friendly farming practices while reducing dependence on chemical inputs.
Nayak also practices integrated farming, cultivating crops such as mango, banana, turmeric, papaya and lemongrass alongside fish farming, demonstrating how sustainable agriculture can become a viable source of income.
What began as a small entrepreneurial venture has now evolved into a model of rural development. By creating jobs, encouraging organic agriculture and reducing distress migration, the initiative is transforming lives and showcasing how local entrepreneurship can strengthen village economies and build a more self-reliant Odisha.
