Odisha Attracts Rs 43,437 Crore Food-Processing Proposals, Strengthening Growth and Jobs Outlook

Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: Odisha has attracted investment proposals worth Rs 43,437 crore at the Odisha FoodPro 2026 summit in New Delhi, giving fresh momentum to the state’s efforts to build a larger food-processing industry and create more jobs outside the state’s major urban centres.

The proposals were received through 27 MoUs worth Rs 41,748 crore and 12 investment-intent forms involving another Rs 1,689 crore. Together, the projects could create more than 43,000 employment opportunities across the state.

The investment drive comes as Odisha seeks to shift from exporting agricultural and marine commodities in raw form to processing more of them within the state. Greater local processing could help increase the value generated from farm and fisheries output while creating additional opportunities for farmers, fishermen, rural businesses and workers.

The state plans to use its strong agricultural base, fisheries sector, 575-km coastline, port network and improving road and logistics connectivity to attract investment across food processing, cold storage, warehousing, packaging and related industries.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the food-processing sector can play a wider role in improving farm incomes, generating rural employment and supporting Odisha’s industrial development.

For the state economy, the proposed investments could have an impact beyond the factories themselves. New processing units are likely to create demand for transportation, storage, packaging, logistics and other supporting services, helping build a broader local business ecosystem.

The focus on value addition is also expected to give Odisha an opportunity to strengthen links between agriculture and industry. Processing more products locally could improve market access for producers while helping the state capture a larger share of the value generated from its agricultural and marine resources.

The FoodPro investment proposals therefore mark a significant step in Odisha’s effort to make food processing a stronger contributor to employment, rural incomes, industrial activity and long-term economic growth.
