Balangir,Aug 11 [UDN}: The auspicious time for Nuakhai, the major agrarian festival of Western Odisha, has been finalised. At a Pandit Mahasabha held at Shailashree Palace in Balangir, the Raj Purohit announced the date and auspicious timing for this year’s Nuakhai celebrations.
The auspicious muhurat has been determined based on the zodiac signs and nakshatras of Maa Pataneswari, Maa Samaleswari and the Maharaja of Patna. Accordingly, Nabanna—the newly harvested rice—will be offered to the deity on September 15, which falls on the Panchami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.
As per the finalised auspicious timing, the Nabanna offering to Maa Pataneswari will take place between 9:31 AM and 10:10 AM on September 15.
With the fixing of the auspicious time, the traditional first ritual associated with Nuakhai has been completed, in accordance with the age-old customs and traditions of the festival. The fixing of the muhurat marks the beginning of preparations for the grand celebration of Nuakhai across Western Odisha.
