Nabarangpur BMS Raises Workers’ Issues Before Labour Secretary, Submits Demand Memorandum Seeking Prompt Government Intervention

Nabarangpur,Aug 19 [UDN}: Members of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) met the Labour Secretary, Labour Commissioner, and Lakshman Das, a member of the Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, and submitted a memorandum highlighting various problems faced by workers at the Labour Office in Nabarangpur district.
The memorandum stated that renewal applications and profiles for new labour cards have been pending for years with the Assistant Labour Officer of Papadahandi Block and the Labour Officer of Dabugaon Block. As a result, workers are facing considerable difficulties.
It was also alleged that workers are being harassed because the Assistant Labour Officer often arrives at the office late. Despite directions from the Labour Officer to Assistant Labour Officers to conduct inquiries into applications for death and marriage assistance, the officials allegedly continue to neglect their duties. Consequently, workers are being deprived of financial assistance.
The memorandum further alleged that new and renewal labour cards have remained pending with the concerned officials for years. The BMS members demanded that these officials be transferred elsewhere.
The union warned that if their demands are not fulfilled, it will launch an agitation in the coming days.
