Bhubaneswar, Sept 1 [UDN}:Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture & Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has made a strong statement regarding the demand for agricultural loan waivers in the flood-affected coastal districts.
He said that agricultural activities had not even started in coastal Odisha when the floods occurred. Since cultivation had not commenced, he argued that there was no crop loss that would warrant an agricultural loan waiver.
His remarks have sparked attention amid the ongoing discussion over flood damage, farmers’ hardships and possible government assistance in affected areas. The Deputy Chief Minister maintained that, given the circumstances, there is no need to waive agricultural loans in the coastal region.
