Nabarangpur, Sept 8 [UDN}:: Senior politician and former Odisha minister Dambaru Majhi passed away at the age of 86 while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital. He breathed his last at around 5 a.m. today. His death has cast a pall of gloom across the political circles and among the general public of Nabarangpur district.
Dambaru Majhi had been active in the politics of the Nabarangpur region for several decades. During his political career, he was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly three times from the Dabugaon constituency—in 1967, 1971 and 1985.
He also played an important role in state politics and served as a minister in the Odisha government at different times. He held portfolios including Agriculture and Cooperation, Works and Transport, Irrigation, and Energy.
With his extensive political experience, Majhi played an important role in raising the issues of the people and advocating for the development of the tribal-dominated areas of Nabarangpur district. His long public life as an MLA and minister will remain a memorable chapter in the political history of Nabarangpur.
After receiving the news of his demise, District Planning Board Chairman Gauri Shankar Majhi, along with several senior leaders, politicians, district administration officials and people from various sections of society, arrived to pay their last respects.
His mortal remains will later be taken to his native village, Chitrakuta, where his last rites will be performed in the presence of family members, relatives, supporters and well-wishers.
